When Nothing Is Sure, Everything Is Possible
Today I want to talk about just security, in future, security being safe, all that kind of stuff.
And a quote from somebody, and I can’t for the life of me think of who wrote the quote, it was – “When nothing is sure, everything is possible.”
And really this one is about positive, negative, expectations about your life, about the journey ahead of you, about what you’re going to do – when you quit drinking – in this instance.
And you know, we’ve so little say about what happens, I mean we can plan, you can sort of, do all that kind of stuff and you can think about what might happen, what might not happen and try and push yourself in the direction, which is the most positive, but -you’re never really sure – you don’t know what’s going to happen around the corner, so. . .
A lot of people look at that and they think well – they see only negative expectations.
What they, view things from a negative aspect, in terms of drinking alcohol, you might start looking at it and go well – “if I quit, I’ve been drinking for that long now, what is my life going to be like when I stop drinking? I’m so used to drinking, I’m so used to socialising and drinking, where am I going to be if I stop? Where’s my life going to turn out?”
For me, when I stopped it was a scary time, you know, I really wanted to do it, because, I knew that alcohol wasn’t doing anything good for me at all, it was causing me all the negativity
Also, the negativity in my life was coming from alcohol and that was leading up to other things and it was just one vicious circle.
It was, it wasn’t doing me any good.
I couldn’t see the positivity in, I mean, I could sort of, I wanted it to be positive, I wanted everything in my life to go well.
I wanted, things to turn out for the best, you know, but I had no real idea about where I was going to go, how that was going to turn out, what it was like to be without alcohol and when you’re that sort of lost, you’re that used to doing something, it’s very difficult to look at it positively – but – you have to sort of view things and try and look forward and view things from as much as a positive outlook as you can manage at that time, even if it’s only looking a week down the road and thinking to yourself – “well, a week away I’m not going to have any hangovers.”
I’m looking forward to getting up on Monday morning and having no hangovers.
If that’s as far as you can see, then just only look that far, you know, once you get past the week then, you might have a little bit of a different perspective, only a slightly bit of a different perspective, but you’ll have that change in thinking.
And you might be able to look at, you might only be able to look at the next week and go well next Monday, I’m going to get up without a hangover.
You know, I’m going to have some more money in my pocket next week, you know, and live for that. Just go forward with that. Don’t look much further than that.
The next week and it goes on like that and on and on and the more you don’t drink, the more experience you get, the more experience you get, the more you can sort of have some surety in your expectations.
Not surety, because you can never be sure of anything but, you know what I mean.
The only way you’re going to do this, is to actually do it, to stop drinking and push yourself.
And if that’s how you’re going to forward, just that day at a time and just experience that day, not look too far forward on that day, then just let that be, it’s all about getting outside your comfort zone and sometimes, you have to just do a tiny little bit at a time.
A tiny bit, you know, just to gain your confidence and move forward.
If that’s what it takes, that’s what it takes.
You know we all strive for security in this life and in all fairness, there is no such thing as security. I mean the modern world gives us an illusion of security, of being secure in our futures
I mean that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day.
But there is no security about our own futures, I mean, you don’t know what the hell’s going to happen.
At the moment, I’m talking, there’s you know, there’s some nut cases on both sides of the camp in America going to take over.
One of them is going to take over as the President of the United Sites.
You know there’s Putin on the other side of the world, whose waving his fists around.
There’s all sort of shit happening in the world, all the time and you just don’t know what’s going to happen, because that kind of stuff, is outside of your control.
When you’re young, you feel a lot more secure in yourself, because, you don’t have that sense of mortality, you feel immortal when you’re young.
I mean I’ve seen recently a Guy, one of these guys who does base jumping and all that kind of stuff.
He jumps off tall buildings, not tall buildings, but tall cliffs in these Squirrel Flying Squirrel suits you know.
And he does all this zooming around, flying down and he finds, he finds like holes in, how do you describe this, like they’d be a big rock in the way and in the middle of that there’s a hole where he can get through or a gap he can get through and he will try and fly through that hole, he will fly through the hole, but he’s just got killed because he tried to do that and obviously misjudged it.
And all it takes is misjudging it once and you’re screwed.
That’s beside the point.
I’m just saying that, as a young guy who believes he was immortal, not in a sense of yeah your immortal, but he didn’t see his own hidden thing, that that was going to happen to him, he was untouchable.
When you’re young you’re like that.
When you get older I think you get a bit more of a sense, of your own human frailty, especially in the sense of this, what we’re talking about, alcohol and what that can do to you and you start seeing the consequences of that.
For me moving to Spain, was a huge leap outside my comfort zone.
Just because in Ireland I had a good business, I was earning good money, I mean, we were able to afford a lot of stuff.
I had things in Ireland, but, I didn’t have the right things that I wanted, which were, sunshine every day and to live a good healthy life style.
I felt my health was deteriorating in Ireland and money can only do so much with that.
You’re much better off being preventative as preventative as you can in your own health care.
So, we moved to Spain and it was a big push outside my own comfort zone to do this, to leave my business behind and for a couple of years before we moved, there was a sort of, I had a duel careers.
I was working in the Forestry and then I was writing at the same time and trying to build up something that could at least, was the beginnings of something over here.
And you know, it’s taken a few years to set up things and get things moving again, but now it’s done.
Alright and I think that’s, you’re not going to make any changes unless you do push yourself outside your comfort zone.
You know and regardless of your fear, knowing that, nothing is secure in this life, you know you’ve got to, even the things that you presume are secure, you know the things that you’re staying in and your saying – “Well, I’d rather do this today” – like drinking – “I’d rather carry on drinking because it’s giving me a certain amount a pleasure” but you know, it’s the same thing, this pleasure is not going to last, this pleasure that you’re getting now.
If you’ve noticed you get a lot more pleasure out of drinking in the past than you did now, otherwise you wouldn’t even be looking at these videos, you know.
It’s the same with quitting drinking, you have to push yourself outside your comfort zone a little bit.
You’ve got to go to areas, be with people who you’ll going to feel different to, you’re going to feel like an outsider.
And you know you’ve – it’s the same thing with when I went Vegan.
In areas now where I don’t drink and I don’t eat meat, I don’t dairy products and stuff. And at the beginning you feel like you have to explain yourself a lot, but I’m quite capable and happy to put up with the scrutiny now because I’m not doing it for other people and I’m doing it for myself, I’m doing it for my long-term health, I’m doing it for my family, you know I want to be the best Father, the best Grand Father I can be.
And yes, it’s just one of those things now, in order to move forward you’ve got to get outside your comfort zone and really dismiss this idea of security, there is no such thing as real security.
It’s only when you accept that, that you start to think, well, you know when you get outside of this security blanket mentality that everything is possible.
It’s only when you get outside of that safety net, outside of your comfort zone, that’s anything possible.

When we think about what we are capable of, we never think big enough.
We look at others and we believe that somehow they have something we don’t and that perhaps they were always destined for more.
We tell ourselves that we don’t have it in us to live that way and to take the action that they do. We worry that we’re not brave enough to make the decisions needed to really live from a place of truth. Or worse, we fear we have nothing of value to offer!
These are all stories to keep us small and playing safe.
We have all these fears bubbling away inside us; the fear of failing, being seen, being rejected, being judged or even criticized for what we believe in. Instead of facing them had on, we choose to run and hide and in doing so we deprive the world of our gifts!
Maybe you’re someone who is scared of success itself… because who would you then have to be? What would have to change in your life, what would you no longer tolerate, who would you lovingly release and let go of.
Even when change is for the best it’s still scary! No one enjoys difficult conversations or potentially hurting someones feelings, and this can stop many people from fulfilling their potential! BUT, do you really want to dim your light for the sake of another? Is their happiness really more important than your own?
Lovely lady, it’s time to stop limiting yourself. You are so much stronger than you know and whatever is thrown at you, I know you’ll deal with it… plus, you always have me in your corner for support!

It’s time to step up, believe in yourself, and to dream big!
Remember, the only thing stopping yourself from achieving the dream is you. Do you really want to waste a few more years blaming things outside yourself, only to have to face the cold hard reality that it was you all along!
If you want 2017 to be your year, then you need to commit to yourself and your dreams now. Stop putting things off until you feel more ready, or the time is perfect…. I guarantee there will never be a right time, because your ego will always find something else to focus on to keep you safe.
Decide that you are ready and this is your time.
Decide that you are going to impact the world with your unique gifts and you will change lives.
Decide that you are ready to share your story and truth and know that the world will hear and embrace it!
